Health Career Access Program

Individuals applying for this position must participate in the Health Careers Access Program as Health Care Support Workers (HCSW) and be enrolled in a Health Care Assistant (HCA) training program at a post-secondary institution with which the organization has a partnership.

The employee will be eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry and employment as an HCA upon successful completion of the 12- to 18-month modular HCA training program. A one-year return of service agreement exists with the employing nursing facility. The Ministry of Health provides complete funding for the HCAP program. The above-mentioned wage rate is paid to participants when they work at the care home and attend the training program.

• As required, performs domestic tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, and washing dishes, as well as washing, drying, folding, and delivering laundry.
• Greets visitors and others in accordance with established safety, security, and infection control procedures and guidelines; provides information and/or redirects, as necessary, to the appropriate individual or location.
• Checks and restocks supplies as necessary, including those for personal care, first aid, and sanitation, and assists with inventory.
• Completes and maintains non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare records electronically or using documents such as inter-shift communication diaries, daily log sheets, and progress reports.
