The Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Central Laser Facility (CLF) provides advanced laser research facilities for UK and international scientists. As a UK national facility within CLF, Octopus has a wide range of advanced laser-based imaging and laser trapping tools. These include confocal microscopy, light microscopy, focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy for life, environmental, and materials sciences, and imaging and tracking single molecules in three dimensions.

Methods used include SIM, STED, MINFLUX, AiryScan, and STORM at both room temperature and cryogenic temperatures. A group of physicists, life scientists, and computational scientists collaborate to develop and operate these microscope techniques.

Octopus is currently focusing on cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM), and we are looking for scientists and scientific software engineers to help us lead new physics techniques that will advance structural biology and allow us to study proteins in the context of cells.

Ph.D. or at least five years of professional experience in computer science or related field, along with a track record of developing scientific software, including experience creating and using numerical algorithms.
